The United Arab Emirates has issued a strong condemnation of the Houthi group’s recent threats against Saudi Arabia, particularly concerning the potential imposition of a maritime blockade. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged the international community to enforce United Nations Security Council resolutions pertinent to Yemen and the safeguarding of maritime security in the Red Sea.
The ministry emphasized the importance of adhering to Resolution 2216, which pertains to the situation in Yemen, and Resolution 2722, which focuses on the protection of navigation rights and the freedom of movement in the Red Sea. These resolutions are critical in maintaining stability and security in the region.
Reaffirming the principles of international law, the UAE highlighted that freedom of navigation in international waters is protected under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
