Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) and the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office have joined forces to launch a substantial food security initiative in Yemen. This project, valued at $10 million, is designed to support vulnerable populations and bolster long-term resilience in the region.
In this collaborative effort, both KSrelief and the UK have committed $5 million each. The United Nations World Food Programme will implement the project across several Yemeni governorates, including Al-Mahrah, Hadramout, Aden, Al-Dhale, and Lahij. The initiative’s primary focus is on providing conditional cash transfers, which will aid in improving food access, restoring essential infrastructure, and enabling families to shift from emergency food reliance to a more self-sufficient livelihood.
Beyond immediate food assistance, the project also emphasizes vocational training and support for local authorities. Additionally, it aims to enhance governance and promote the sustainable management of community assets, ensuring that the benefits of the initiative are both far-reaching and enduring.
This agreement is part of a broader humanitarian effort by Saudi Arabia through KSrelief. Since 2015, the agency has been instrumental in implementing over 4,400 aid projects, with a cumulative value exceeding $8.5 billion, across 113 countries. The current collaboration in Yemen underscores the ongoing commitment of both Saudi Arabia and the UK to address pressing humanitarian needs and foster stability in regions affected by conflict and crisis.
