Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in electricity interconnection and rail transport, aiming to boost regional connectivity and economic collaboration. The agreement, signed by Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman and UAE Investment Minister Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, focuses on improving energy efficiency and facilitating cross-border trade between the two nations.
The MoU outlines plans for collaboration on electricity grid interconnection, exchange, and sales, as well as the development of rail links. This initiative is designed to strengthen infrastructure integration, offering mutual economic benefits to both countries. Furthermore, Saudi Arabia and the UAE will work with other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states to extend the regional electricity interconnection network, enhancing energy system efficiency and fostering greater integration across the Gulf.
In addition to electricity cooperation, the agreement establishes foundational principles for rail connectivity, focusing on the transportation and transit of goods and freight in both directions. The proposed rail cooperation is expected to improve logistics networks, increase supply-chain efficiency, and facilitate cross-border cargo movement, thereby supporting economic growth and expanding regional trade.
By strengthening transport and energy links, Saudi Arabia and the UAE aim to deepen cooperation across the Gulf and contribute to regional development. The initiative reflects the broader goals of both countries to enhance infrastructure and economic ties within the region.
