China has urged the United States and Iran to engage in continued negotiations to prevent further escalation, emphasizing that dialogue is the optimal route for resolving regional tensions. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi highlighted the fragile nature of the current ceasefire but insisted that discussions are preferable to conflict. Moreover, he expressed Beijing’s willingness to collaborate with Saudi Arabia to help mitigate tensions and promote long-term stability in the region.
In a meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan in Beijing, both nations underscored the significance of maintaining open passage through the Strait of Hormuz. This crucial waterway is vital for global energy distribution as a substantial portion of oil and gas shipments transit through it. The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz has emerged as a focal point in the dialogues between Iran and the United States, which have been affected by tensions that disrupted shipping activities.
China, with its heavy reliance on energy supplies from the Gulf, has consistently advocated for a peaceful resolution to the situation. The discussions between China and Saudi Arabia also explored ways to bolster their cooperation across various sectors, including trade, investment, energy, technology, and supply chains.
Beyond economic and trade ties, the conversation addressed broader regional security efforts. Both China and Saudi Arabia are keen on improving security measures to ensure the stability of this strategically important area.
