Pakistan Deploys Military Personnel to Saudi Arabia Under New Defense Agreement

Pakistan has confirmed the deployment of its military personnel to Saudi Arabia as part of a joint defence agreement aimed at supporting the kingdom’s territorial security. According to Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Sajjad Haider Khan, these forces are stationed in Riyadh with the sole purpose of defending Saudi Arabia, and not to participate in any offensive operations, such as those against Yemen’s Houthi forces.

The Pakistani military has also verified that its personnel in Saudi Arabia are engaged in various operational roles under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement. This pact, signed on August 7, 2026, in Makkah, also includes Turkey, and establishes a collective security framework among the three nations. The agreement stipulates that an armed attack against one member will be considered an attack against all, thereby reinforcing regional security cooperation.

This deployment marks a significant step in the military collaboration between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, reflecting a commitment to mutual defence and stability in the region. The agreement underscores the strategic importance of the partnership, as well as the intent to enhance regional security through cooperative measures.

While the presence of Pakistani forces in Saudi Arabia highlights the growing defence ties between the two countries, it also raises questions about the broader geopolitical dynamics in the Middle East. The inclusion of Turkey in the agreement suggests an effort to solidify alliances amidst ongoing regional tensions.

The joint defence pact is seen as a proactive measure to deter potential threats and ensure a swift collective response to any aggression. By strengthening military cooperation, the involved nations aim to secure their borders and maintain peace in the region.
