UAE and Saudi Arabia Renew Military Support Against Houthis in Yemen Conflict

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia are enhancing their collaborative efforts against Houthi forces in Yemen, as the UAE reportedly resumes financial support for Yemeni government forces and Saudi Arabia commits air support to the coalition. This strategic move comes amid increasing security concerns due to Houthi advances and regional attacks.

The renewed cooperation between the UAE and Saudi Arabia could potentially mend previous disagreements regarding Yemen’s political future and the role of southern separatist groups. Prior to withdrawing its involvement in Yemen in January, the UAE had supported and trained several southern military units.

In parallel, Yemen’s internationally recognized government has initiated a counteroffensive to reclaim territories near Marib and the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait. Despite these efforts, the progress remains limited due to ongoing fighting and persistent security threats.

Regional tensions have escalated, with Saudi Arabia facing drone and missile attacks attributed to the Houthis. In response, Egypt has expressed its willingness to consider defensive measures to protect Saudi Arabia, while the United Kingdom is evaluating requests for additional military assistance.

The conflict continues to exacerbate Yemen’s humanitarian crisis, with more than 200,000 people reportedly displaced since August. This has placed additional pressure on humanitarian organizations tasked with providing emergency assistance in the region.
