Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Türkiye have reached an agreement to activate collective defense measures and deploy military forces to Saudi Arabia. This decision follows recent attacks by Yemen’s Houthi group on the kingdom. The agreement was finalized during an emergency meeting of the Strategic Political and Defense Committee of the Mecca Alliance held in Riyadh.
Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman announced that the member states had agreed to the rapid deployment of military capabilities in response to the escalating situation. The Mecca Defense Alliance, formed on August 7 by these three nations, establishes a framework for collective defense, treating an attack on one member as an attack on all.
The recent escalation in Yemen, where Saudi-backed forces are mounting a counteroffensive against Houthi fighters, underscores the urgency of operationalizing the alliance’s collective defense commitments. The Houthi group’s capture of territory last month has intensified the conflict, prompting this collaborative military response.
The deployment of military forces will occur under existing arrangements and in accordance with the laws of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Türkiye. This move signifies a significant step in activating the alliance’s defense framework and demonstrates the member states’ commitment to mutual security.
